Policies of the Ten Minute Limit -------------------------------- This file is not meant to be complete, just meant to be an answer to some commonly asked questions, provide info, etc. 1. TML was set up in response to my own concerns at the time, that an ordinary user had no access to a reliable mail feed, and that becoming a point off anyone was considered something only available to important people. The main purpose of TML is to plug that gap. 2. The sysop of TML is also a normal user, and posts from point number 9. Therefor it is his vital interest that 3:711/934 remains a reliable mail feed, so that he gets his own mail. 3. Anyone who wishes to join in and have access to a reliable mail feed is welcome. Anyone who is looking for interactive chat, or some other service not related to reliable mail, would do well to look elsewhere. 4. As a point, it is your responsibility to comply with the technical requirements of the FTS and FSC specs. If you are found to not be complying with them, you will be asked to either reconfigure your software, or change software. Anyone who maliciously sends mail through my system that is non-compliant will cease to be able to send/receive mail through me. 5. As a point, it is your responsibility to abide by the moderator's decision in any echo. If a moderator decides to kick you out, then just kick yourself out. If a moderator sends me mail saying to kick you out, I will in turn tell you to kick yourself out (just not posting any messages in the echo will be sufficient). Any further messages posted in the echo after that will cause you to be kicked off TML altogether, not just that echo. 6. If you are after a system where you can post out-of-spec messages and ignore the moderator when he kicks you out, you will have to find another system with that sort of policy. Unfortunately I don't know any like that, so I can't refer you to one. You can start your own system though, FREQ POLICY4.* from 3:711/934 and follow the directions. 7. This system uses a Spirit Thunder modem, which has a problem with 19.2k connects, so it is set to 14.4k. The modem is a heap of shit, but works in the main anyway. If you are having problems connecting, you can ask and I will try to help find a workaround. You should be prepared to run a long series of tests and collate the results (possibly with results obtained from other points) yourself. Do not waste the sysops time if you are not prepared to do this. 8. If you would like the sysop to use a different modem, then you will be responsible for the purchase and delivery of the modem to the sysop's door. The new modem must be at least as good as the old one (in the sysop's opinion), and the old modem will not be given to you in recompense. If, after some time in operation, the new modem is found to be not to the sysop's liking, you will be able to have the modem back. You will be responsible for picking up the modem from the sysop's door. However, until that time, the modem remains the property of the sysop. Alternatively, you may arrange in advance to send a cheque to cover the cost of the modem, the hassle of going to the bank to cash the cheque, and the hassle of going to the shop to buy the modem. $200 should cover the cost of the last two items. Please note that if you wish to send me a non-Austel-approved modem, you should send an additional $15000 to cover the cost of any fine that I may incur. 9. The sysop does not charge for access to the system, unlike many other BBS's, so does not have a pool of user's money that can go towards things like new modems and extra phone lines. However, the sysop does not want money from users, since he already has a modem and an extra phone line, so it isn't costing him any money to run the BBS. So long as it continues to not cost him anything, he neither expects nor wants any money from users. From time to time, the sysop may choose to upgrade his modem out of his own money. You will know that this has happened when you see an announcement in LOCSYSOP to this effect. 10. The overriding concern of the sysop is to get a reliable mail feed for himself. Anyone caught doing anything to endanger (in the sysop's opinion) this will be kicked off the system. 11. The sysop will not censor anything you post in an echo, that is the job of the moderator. So long as you respect the points as above, you should feel free to post whatever you like, and abuse the crap out of the sysop as much as you like. 12. The system, being primarily for mail, will also have some additional features from time to time, e.g. being able to put files into "Special Requests" so that others can FREQ them, or routing files to points. None of these features are guaranteed to continue.
